Dow Jones following Formula 1 action

Stoxx Ltd has launched a Grand Prix Index on the Dow Jones. The new index measures the performance of the major players in the Formula 1 series, including engine manufacturers, tyre makers, oil and fuel suppliers and team sponsors.

Stoxx Ltd has launched a Grand Prix Index on the Dow Jones. The new index measures the performance of the major players in the Formula 1 series, including engine manufacturers, tyre makers, oil and fuel suppliers and team sponsors. Companies in the respective categories are weighted as follows: 60 percent for engine manufacturers, 15 percent for tire makers, 15 percent for oil and fuel suppliers and 10 percent for team sponsors. The weighting reflects the potential influence of a supplier in the success of a Formula 1 team.

The Grand Prix Index is the newest addition to the popular and widely used sports indexes which aims to link the world of sports and the world of finance. In the course of the last year the Dow Jones Stoxx Grand Prix Index has gained 18.23%. There are 19 companies included in the index, including Renault, Fiat, Bridgestone, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, Toyota, Honda, Petrobras, ExxonMobil, Total, Royal Dutch Shell, Nippon Oil, Petronas, Altria, AT&T, Spyker Cars, Vodafone, ING and Matsushita Electric (Panasonic).
