Scott Dixon has ambitions in Formula 1 and the young New Zealander gave himself a big career boost by winning the Indy Racing League title for Target Chip Ganassi Racing at the Texas Motor Speedway. Dixon finished second ahead of Gil de Ferran after their other title rivals Tony Kanaan and Helio Castroneves collided and took each other out.

Dixon, who is managed by former Ferrari and McLaren F1 driver Stefan Johansson, is hoping to get a Formula 1 test later this winter and wants to try to get into F1 in 2005 when his current contract with Target Chip Ganassi Racing is finished.

British driver Dan Wheldon was named Rookie of the Year for his efforts for Andretti Green Racing.
