Di Montezemolo picks up honorary degree

FERRARI President Luca di Montezemolo is to be awarded an honorary degree in mechanical engineering by the University of Modena.

The university has decided to give the award to Di Montezemolo in recognition of his influence and achievements with the Ferrari Formula One team, which the university believes has had a massive impact on the country.

Ferrari won the constructors' championship and, with Michael Schumacher, the drivers' championship last season and the entire country celebrated the successes.

A spokesman for the university's senate said: "The important results achieved by Ferrari have had a beneficial effect on Italy's entire entrepreneurial and industrial sector.

"What Di Montezemolo has achieved places him in the role of ambassador for Italian mechanical engineering throughout the world."

The degree ceremony is scheduled to take place in Modena on December 4.
