DAMON HILL says he will not be racing Formula 1 in the next century. In a recent interview with Paris-Match Damon revealed that he has promised his wife Georgie that he will retire in the year 2000.

"The year 2000. Is that this century?" said Damon at Magny-Cours. "Let me put it this way. I don't think I will continue racing into the next century. That is another four years. I've only been doing F1 for four years so if I did another four that would be eight seasons. That's not bad, is it? If I keep on winning I could be up to 40 wins by then!"

Hill will not say whether he means 1999 or the year 2000 but he did joke that he feels that at the moment he should be allowed to say such things because by the year 2000 everyone will have forgotten what he has said anyway - and because F1 is a world where things can change in a week.
