BMW-Williams work on revolutionary new braking system

THE BMW-Williams team are believed to be working on a revolutionary new braking system that can cut stopping distances by half.

THE BMW-Williams team are believed to be working on a revolutionary new braking system that can cut stopping distances by half.

Williams are reported to be working with Surface Transforms, who say they have developed a carbon-based material for making lightweight brake discs.

Surface Transforms believe they can reduce the weight of a Formula One car by 30-40 kilograms, therefore helping to reduce braking distances and cutting fuel consumption and emissions.

DaimlerChrysler and Porsche are reported to be developing similar brake systems, but Surface Transforms have the most simplified construction process and are believed to be the most advanced.
