BMW will supply Williams with a brand new engine for next season as the German manufacturer looks to challenge Ferrari and McLaren for the World title.

Williams' connection with the engine supplier has progressed extremely well this season after BMW boss Gerhard Berger originally stated their goal was to score points in 2000, while looking for podium finishes in 2001.

But the team's season has gone from strength to strength and they currently lie in third place in the World Championship behind the big two.

Speaking about BMW plans, Berger said: "We are very confident about the performance we have made this season. It is still not quite at the level of McLaren and Ferrari, but it is not far behind.

"We are optimistic about the new engine for next year. It is almost finished and is completely new concept which we know will be much better."
