Australian organizers propose new fences to coroner

AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX Chairman Ron Walker has announced that the race organizers are to present a number of safety fence design changes to the coroner investigating last year's fatal accident in Albert Park. The basic fence construction remains the same but rather than having horizontal openings of 4m by 40cm as previously was the case they are proposing vertical openings which face away from the direction of the cars. In places where this is not possible they are proposing "cages" which would be unoccupied by marshals but through which they could pass if they were needed to help on the track. To protect photographers it is proposed that larger openings be replaced by more smaller holes in the fences.
