Aston Martin restructures F1 team for 2026 goals
Aston Martin has announced a major leadership overhaul, positioning itself for future success in Formula 1. Andy Cowell, who joined as CEO in October, will now also serve as Team Principal. This change centralizes leadership, with the Aerodynamics, Engineering, and Performance teams reporting directly to Cowell.
Mike Krack, the team’s former Team Principal, assumes the role of Chief Trackside Officer. His focus will shift to extracting maximum car performance during race weekends, allowing him to concentrate on operational excellence at the track.
Enrico Cardile, previously Ferrari’s Technical Director for Chassis and Aerodynamics, joins as Chief Technical Officer. He will spearhead the architecture, design, and construction of future race cars, leveraging his vast expertise to ensure Aston Martin’s competitiveness.
Tom McCullough, a long-standing team member with 11 years of experience, retains a leadership position, expanding Aston Martin’s reach across various racing categories. His continuity adds stability to the evolving structure.
This reshuffle comes as Aston Martin prepares for its transition to a full works team in 2026 in partnership with Honda. The completion of the AMR Technology Campus underpins their ambitious plans, which include vying for championship titles.
Reflecting on the changes, Cowell praised the team’s commitment and hard work, noting that the restructuring aligns with their multi-year roadmap. Following a 5th-place finish in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, these changes are seen as a natural progression toward achieving their ultimate goal.
With new leadership and a clear strategy, Aston Martin aims to establish itself as a frontrunner in Formula 1, laying the groundwork for sustained success in the sport’s highly competitive landscape.
Andy Cowell, CEO & Team Principal said, I have spent the last three months understanding and assessing our performance, and I've been incredibly impressed by the dedication, commitment and hard work of this team. With the completion of the AMR Technology Campus and our transition in 2026 to a full works team, alongside our strategic partners Honda and Aramco, we are on a journey to becoming a Championship-winning team. These organisational changes are a natural evolution of the multi-year plans that we have scheduled to make and I'm incredibly excited about the future.
