ARROWS new A22 chassis had a short-lived debut at Silverstone on Friday -- when it lasted just one lap.

The Leafield-based team took the new machine onto the Northamptonshire circuit on Friday morning but the AMT-powered car caught alight after one installation lap as Jos Verstappen returned to the pits.

Engineers put out the fire at the back of the car, but the new car has remained in the pits. Team boss Tom Walkinshaw attended the private test, in which the car took to the track in all-black livery.

Dutchman Verstappen's team-mate Enrique Bernoldi, who was named as a full driver on Wednesday, is on duty at Barcelona again today where he will test last year's A21 with 2001 components.
