Adrien Tambay won his first race victory last weekend at the Circuit du Pays d'Essay, near Alencon, in Normandy. Tambay (11) is competing in the French Junior Kart Championship and is currently second overall in the series. Tambay started racing a couple of years ago but his first victory comes 16 years after his father Patrick stopped racing after an illustrious career in Formula 1 with a variety of teams including McLaren, Ferrari and Renault.

Patrick (now 53) won two Grands Prix in 1982 and 1983. The first being at the Germany GP where team leader Didier Pironi suffered terrible leg injuries in practice and the second being a magical win at Imola the following year at the wheel of Ferrari Number 27, Gilles Villeneuve's famous racing number. Tambay is now a TV commentator and in recent years has embarked on a low-level (to date at least) political career in France, as deputy mayor of one of the suburbs of Cannes.
