2002 provisional calendar announced
THE provisional calendar for the 2002 Formula One World Championship has been released and it is almost unchanged from this year's schedule.
The main change is that the British Grand Prix has traded places with the French Grand Prix, swapping the traditional running order of the events for the first time since 2000's disastrous British race on a waterlogged Easter weekend. This is so that the French Grand Prix does not clash with the soccer World Cup finals in Japan and Korea.
If this calendar is upheld the German Grand Prix will take place a week after the French event and will be followed by the three-week 'summer holiday' before normal order is resumed from Hungary on. Despite the failing interest in America for Formula 1 the Indianapolis event retains its place in the prestigious late-season segment when world championships are, more often than not, decided.
