Practice 2 Report - A Murky Day

Rain, lightning and murky conditions caused officials to cancel Free Practice 2 after waiting nearly an hour to see if conditions would improve.

The ambient temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 81 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Centigrade).

It had rained during the break between the sessions, and there was a 100 percent chance of rain during FP2. There was also lightning in the area, so the session was delayed indefinitely because the corner workers were unable to be at their posts.

The line-up for the weekend was: Mercedes “ Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Red Bull Renault “ Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. Williams Mercedes “ Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Ferrari “ Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. McLaren Honda “ Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. Force India Mercedes “ Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez. Toro Rosso Renault “ Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. Lotus Mercedes “ Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado. Marussia Ferrari “ Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi. Sauber “ Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr.

All of them “ man and machine “ were nice and dry in their garages. The spectators meanwhile were getting soaked because it had started to rain again. Plus there was thunder and lightning.

The fans were told to seek shelter in cars or indoors, and not under the grandstands.

Finally, at 2:56 p.m. local time, it was announced that FP2 would be canceled because the medical helicopter would not be able to fly for the next two hours.
