Race Notes - Button wins Turkish GP

Jenson Button won the Turkish Grand Prix, in Istanbul, in commanding fashion in his Brawn-Mercedes. Mark Webber in the Red Bull-Renault finished second, 6.7 seconds behind, followed by his team mate Sebastian Vettel in third, 7.4 seconds behind.

The win is Button's sixth of the season out of seven races, and his seventh career victory. Button increases his lead in the Drivers' World Championship to 26 points over his team mate Barrichello.

Jarno Trulli (27.8s) in the Toyota finished in fourth place, followed by Nico Rosberg (31.5s) in the Williams-Toyota in fifth, Felipe Massa (39.9s) in the Ferrari in sixth, Robert Kubica (46.2s) in the BMW Sauber in seventh and Timo Glock (46.9s) in the second Toyota in the final points paying position.

Most drivers opted to start on the hard tyres. At the start polesitter Vettel kept the lead with Button following. Barrichello was slow off the line and dropped to 13th place, while Trulli passes Webber for third. On the first lap Vettel runs wide and Button passes for the lead - Webber passes Trulli back for third.

Button leads Vettel, Webber, Trulli, Rosberg, Massa, Alonso, Kubica, Raikkonen and Nakajima in 10th - Barrichello in 12th.

On lap 5 Fisichella pits for an extended stop.

On lap 8 Barrichello passes Kovalainen, but the Finn uses he KERS and repasses. On lap 9 Barrichello tries to pass again, and spins but continues, losing four places, falling to 17th.

On lap 10 Barrichello passes Hamilton for 16th.

At lap 10 Button leads Vettel by 4.2 seconds, followed by Webber (9.2s), Trulli (12.5s), Rosberg (15.1s), Massa (16.9s), Alonso (19.6s), Kubica (22.7s), Raikkonen (23.3s) and Nakajima (26.5s) in tenth place.

On lap 11 Barrichello passes Piquet for 15th place.

Barrichello reports to his pit that he is missing 7th gear - certainly hindering his progress.

On lap 13 Barrichello attempts to pass Sutil and touches his rear wheel, breaking off some bits of his front wing end plate. At the end of the lap Barrichello is the first to pit for another set of hard tyres - the team changing the front wing.

On lap 14 Alonso pits from seventh place. The next lap Vettel pits from second place taking another set of hard tyres, rejoining in sixth.

On lap 17 Trulli pits from third place, rejoining in 9th.

On lap 18 the leader Button and Massa from fourth both pit, Button, staying on the hard tyre rejoins in third. The next lap Webber pits from the lead staying on hard tyres, Rosberg and Raikkonen also pitting - Button taking over the lead again.

On lap 20 Kovalainen pits from eighth place.

On lap 21 Kubica makes his first stop from third, along with Sutil.

At lap 21, Button continues to lead Vettel by 2.4 seconds, closing on the leader, followed by Webber (11.9s), Nakajima (18.1s), Rosberg (22.8s), Trulli (24.6s), Glock (25.3s), Massa (29.9s), Heidfeld (30.7s) and Kubica (33.8s) in tenth place - Hamilton passing Raikkonen for 13th, Barrichello runs in 19th place.

Vettel closes the gap on Button to 1.1 seconds on lap 23, 0.6 seconds on lap 24, 0.2 seconds on lap 25, within striking distance.

On lap 27 Nakajima makes his first stop from fourth place. Glock passes his team mate Trulli for sixth place - Glock on a different strategy. Barrichello passes Bourdais for 17th.

On lap 29 Heidfeld pits from eighth. After shadowing Button, Vettel is the first to make his second pit stop. The next lap Glock pits.

At lap 31, Button leads Webber by 16.3 seconds, followed by Vettel (23.7s), Rosberg (30.1s), Trulli (33.6s), Massa (39.8s), Nakajima (45.6s), Kubica (48.0s), Alonso (49.4s) and Hamilton (50.2s) in tenth - Raikkonen in 13th, Barrichello in 17th.

On lap 32 Piquet makes his first stop. Followed the next lap by Hamilton and Bourdais, the last two drivers to make their first stops.

On lap 34 Piquet passes Hamilton for 16th place.

On lap 38 Buemi passes Hamilton, on soft tyres, for 17th.

On lap 39 Barrichello makes his second pitstop from 14th place, switching to soft tyres for his final stint. Alonso pits the next lap from ninth place.

On lap 41 Rosberg pits from fourth place, switching to soft tyres and rejoining in seveth place.

At lap 41 Button leads Webber by 19.4 seconds, followed by Vettel (29.0s), Trulli (37.2s), Massa (45.6s), Nakajima (54.3s), Rosberg (56.7s), Kubica (57.9s), Glock (59.4s) and Raikkonen (62.2s) in tenth place - Barrichello one lap down in 17th place.

On lap 43 Massa pirs from fifth place, switching to soft tyres.

On lap 44 leader Button and second place Webber pit, switching to soft tyres. Trulli and Nakajima also pit. The next lap Kubica and Raikkonen make their final stops, followed by Heidfeld on lap 46.

Button leads Vettel by 7 seconds, but the young German still needs to make his final stop.

On lap 48 Glock makes his final stop from sixth place, Piquet stopping as well. Barrichello stops and retires in the pits from 15th place.

On lap 49 Vettel pits from second place for soft tyres and rejoins in third place, behind his team mate Webber.

At lap 50 Button leads Webber by 20.9 seconds, followed by Vettel (24.3s), Trulli (39.0s), Rosberg (42.3s), Massa (51.5s), Kubica (61.0s), Glock (61.8s), Raikkonen (65.3s) and Alonso (70.2s) in tenth place.

On lap 54 with Vettel closing on his team mate Webber, the team tells Vettel that Webber is faster and he should save his car.

The order remained the same to the line.
