Mark Webber (1:22.470) continued to set the pace in the second session of free practice for Sunday's Spanish GP, round 5 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

As drivers tried Pirelli's option tyre, Lewis Hamilton's McLaren (1:22.509) was just a few hundredths slower, the team hopeful that the latest round of upgrades on the cars has closed the gap to Red Bull Racing.

Championship leader Sebastian Vettel (1:22.826) was third quickest, from Jenson Button's McLaren (1:23.188) and Fernando Alonso's Ferrari (1:23.568). Once again showing similar one-lap pace to the Ferrari was Mercedes, with Nico Rosberg lapping just two hundredths slower than the home hero. Michael Schumacher (1:23.981) was seventh quickest, the seven times champion again four tenths adrift of his young team mate.

Felipe Massa (1:24.278) survived a trip into the Turn 5 gravel to emerge from the session eighth fastest, ahead of Kamui Kobayashi's Sauber (1:24.290) and Nick Heidfeld's Renault (1:24.366).
