Jenson Button took pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, crossing the line to start his final flying lap just two seconds before the chequered flag came out. At that point his Brawn team-mate Rubens Barrichello was on pole, but he was bounced from that position by the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel and then Button flashed across the line to take pole by a tenth of a second.

There was some hope for Ferrari with Felipe Massa able to qualify fourth ahead of the second Red Bull driven by Mark Webber. The two Toyotas were next up with Timo Glock beating Jarno Trulli, while Fernando Alonso was eighth, Nico Rosberg ninth and Robert Kubica 10th.

The grid positions are interesting but we will have to wait for a few hours to see what the car weights are, which will give us a better idea of what will happen in the race.

Barrichello was fastest in the Q2 session, setting the fastest lap of the weekend, ahead of Webber and Glock. Knocked out in that part of the session were Kazuki Nakajima, Nelson Piquet, Nick Heidfeld, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastien Buemi.

Massa was the fastest man in Q1 with Webber behind him, but Ferrari's hopes took a plunge as Kimi Raikkonen was knocked out, along with Sebastien Bourdais, Heikki Kovalainen and the Force Indias of Adrian Sutil and Giancarlo Fisichella.
