Practice 2 Report - Say what?

Daniil Kvyat fastest in his Red Bull? Kimi Raikkonen second in his Ferrari? Daniel Ricciardo third in his Red Bull? Lewis Hamilton way back in fourth in his Mercedes?

Say what?

Well, you can say that was the finishing order in FP2, however unusual it was.

The ambient temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Centigrade).

The line-up for the weekend was: Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Red Bull Renault Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. Williams Mercedes Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Ferrari Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. McLaren Honda Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. Force India Mercedes Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez. Toro Rosso Renault Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. Lotus Mercedes Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado. Marussia Ferrari Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi. Sauber Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr.

Kvyat was the first out, and he clocked a 1:49.307.

6 minutes into the session, the red flags came out as Stevens tagged the barriers at Turn 11.

FP2 was restarted 11 minutes into the session.

15 minutes into the session, Ricciardo took first place with a 1:48.103.

16 minutes into the session, Raikkonen set a time of 1:47.659.

20 minutes into the session, Raikkonen was still on top, but now Ricciardo and Kvyat were second and third.

21 minutes into the session, Sainz limped to the pits with his left rear tire in shreds.

25 minutes into the session, Kvyat turned a 1:47.676 to take second place.

27 minutes into the session, Hamilton showed his hand and clocked a 1:47.633.

30 minutes into the session, the top 10 were: Hamilton, Raikkonen, Kvyat, Ricciardo, Rosberg, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Alonso, Vettel and Button.

But Raikkonen soon took the number one slot with a time of 1:46.181 set on Pirelli's super soft slicks. Vettel used the tires to set a 1:46.487 for second place while Hulkenberg took the third spot.

37 minutes into the session, Hamilton ran wide at Turn 2. Then Rosberg took over third place with a 1:46.781.

40 minutes into the session, Hamilton kept it on the track to do a 1:46.479.

With 46 minutes remaining in the session, Ricciardo took second with a time of 1:46.256.

With 43 minutes remaining in the session, Kvyat went in front with a 1:46.142.

With 40 minutes remaining in the session, the top 10 were: Kvyat, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Vettel, Rosberg, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Verstappen and Massa. Then Perez moved up to sixth place.

Rossi's car was still being repaired and he had not left the garage.

By now everybody's tires were well worn, so fast times were not in the offing.

With 20 minutes remaining in the session, Rossi emerged from the garage. He would complete 9 laps.

With 14 minutes remaining in the session, everybody was on track except Stevens.

With 10 minutes remaining in the session, everybody was on track except Stevens and Rossi.

The top 10 were: Kvyat, Raikkonen, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Vettel, Perez, Rosberg, Alonso, Hulkenberg and Verstappen.
