Practice 1 Report - Rosberg's Roll

Everything went wrong for Nico Rosberg during the Italian Grand Prix, but he was on a roll in Singapore as he went fastest in Free Practice 1 in his Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton was second best and Daniel Ricciardo third quickest.

The ambient temperature at the start of the 90-minute session was 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Centigrade) and the track temperature was 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Centigrade.) The humidity was 76 percent.

The line-up for the weekend was: Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Red Bull Renault Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. Williams Mercedes Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas. Ferrari Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen. McLaren Honda Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button. Force India Mercedes Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez. Toro Rosso Renault Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz. Lotus Mercedes Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado. Marussia Ferrari Will Stevens and Alexander Rossi. Sauber Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr.

Vettel was the first out on the 3.147mile (5.065-km) 23turn street track. Rossi also did an install lap in the Marussia as the Californian made his fully fledged debut as a Formula 1 driver.

Rosberg set the first time 1:50.393 12 minutes into the session. He then lowered that to a 1:49.473.

Pirelli's tire choices for the weekend were the soft compound slick with the yellow sidewalls and the super soft with the red sidewalls.

20 minutes into the session, Hulkenberg was second with a time of 1:51.085. But now Rosberg had improved to a 1:49.184.

25 minutes into the session, only Rosberg, Rossi and Kvyat were not on the track. Ricciardo was now second ahead of Hamilton and Raikkonen.

As the one-third mark came up, the top 10 were: Rosberg, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Raikkonen, Vettel, Hulkenberg, Perez, Bottas, Maldonado and Alonso.

During the usual lull after the first 30 minutes of running, Rossi took to the track to get in some laps.

45 minutes into the session, Rosberg improved to a 1:48.004.

With 42 minutes remaining in the session, Hamilton posted a 1:48.314.

It had been an incident free session so far, with only Hamilton, Massa and Perez having minor offs.

With 39 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel took third with a 1:48.494.

With 32 minutes remaining in the session, Ricciardo beat Vettel's time with a 1:48.439.

With 28 minutes remaining in the session, Rosberg went even faster, turning a 1:47.995. Hamilton was still second ahead of Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Hulkenberg, Sainz, Verstappen, Maldonado and Alonso.

With 15 minutes remaining in the session, the top 10 had readjusted to be: Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Bottas, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Sainz and Maldonado.

With 10 minutes remaining in the session, Vettel slid off at Turn 5 and continued.

With 5 minutes remaining in the session, only Verstappen and Maldonado were not on the track.

With 3 minutes remaining in the session, the red flags came out as Rossi crashed at Turn 18, and ripped the right side of the Marussia.

The top 10 at the end of FP1 were: Rosberg, Hamilton, Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Bottas, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Sainz and Maldonado.
