Fernando Alonso is either enjoying the greatest comeback in modern Formula 1, or he has been running with virtually no fuel in his Renault in practice for the Singapore Grand Prix. We will know the answer to that soon enough as the teams prepare for qualifying. The third practice session saw Fernando six-tenths of a second ahead of the World Championship challengers Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa.

Nelson Piquet was fourth fastest in the second Renault which seemed to suggest that Renault was playing the same game with both cars while Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button and Robert Kubica were also all up there. Mark Webber was eighth in his Red Bull, ahead of the two Toro Rossos of Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais. Nick Heidfeld was 11th ahead of Kazuki Nakajima, Heikki Kovalainen, Rubens Barrichello and Timo Glock.

Jarno Trulli was 16th in his Toyota ahead of Kimi Raikkonen who went off in his Ferrari and was unable to rejoin. David Coutlhard also hit trouble with his Red Bull and was 18th while the two Force Indias were at the back, with Giancarlo Fisichella riding over the big kerbs at the chicane, launching himself into the air and then straight into the barriers. The car was damaged but he was fine.
