Practice 2 Report - PS Lewis

Just when everyone thought that Ferrari had the Malaysian GP weekend sewn up, Lewis Hamilton threw water on the Italian fireworks, snatching the fastest time of the Friday afternoon session in Kuala Lumpur, with a lap that was two-tenths faster than the best time that Ferrari's Felipe Massa could manage. The Brazilian was two-tenths slower than Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari.

The question remains whether or not the times are greatly significant, as Jenson Button was fourth quickest in his Honda and Sebastian Vettel's Toro Rosso.

Sixth quickest, but almost 1.5secs down on Hamilton's best was Jarno Trulli's Toyota. This was followed by Heikki Kovalainen in the second McLaren, Robert Kubica's BMW Sauber, Giancarlo Fisichella's Force India and Kazuki Nakajima's Williams.

There was no sign of David Coulthard after his accident in the morning session and Sebastien Bourdais's Toro Rosso ground to a halt, leaving major tyre marks all over the road, an indication of some form of transmission blockage.

Melbourne frontrunners Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld did not show their hands with only the 12th and 13th best times. This was still ahead of the Renaults of Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet.
