Practice 1 Report - McLaren on top but Kimi in trouble

Pedro de la Rosa set the fastest time of the morning session on Friday at Suzuka but Kimi Raikkonen hit technical trouble again and may now have to drop down the grid with an engine change.

Not surprisingly Toyota and Honda are keen to impress at home and so Toyota's Ricardo Zonta was second fastest and Jenson Button, Honda's hero, was third. Zonta later stopped out on the circuit.

 David Coulthard was fourth fastest for Red Bull Racing with Juan Pablo Montoya fifth followed by World Champion Fernando Alonso and his Renault team mate Giancarlo Fisichella and national hero Takuma Sato in his BAR-Honda. The top 10 was completed by Mark Webber in his Williams-BMW and Christian Klien in the second Red Bull. Felipe Massa was 11th for Sauber and then came the third Red Bull driver Tonio Liuzzi with Raikkonen 13th after only eight laps and Antonio Pizzonia in the second Williams.

The Ferraris were off the pace completely with Rubens Barrichello 16th and Michael Schumacher 18th, the pair split by the Toyota of Ralf Schumacher with Jarno Trulli 19th ahead of Sakon Yamamoto in the Jordan.
