Practice 1 Report - Red Bull a second clear in first Hungary session

Although the strengths of Red Bull's RB6 suit tracks with high speed turns like Barcelona and Silverstone, Mark Webber is confident that it will also go well around the twisty Hungaroring, which hosts round 12 of the 19-race F1 world championship this Sunday.

Action in the opening session of free practice in Hungary is traditionally less than frenetic as the track surface is uncommonly dusty and takes a long time to clean up. But that did not stop the Red Bulls demonstrating strong early pace when Sebastian Vettel topped the session with a lap in 1m20.97s, while Webber was second quickest (1:21.106).

With cars running almost as much downforce as in Monaco, Robert Kubica (1:22.072), a man who was strong throughout the Monte Carlo weekend, was the closest to the Red Bulls in the first practice session.

Jenson Button (1:22.444) was fourth fastest for McLaren, ahead of Rubens Barrichello (1:22.601), who is hopeful of a strong result on the back of improved form from his Williams-Cosworth. Pedro de la Rosa (1:22.764) made it five different chassis in the first six places with the first of the Saubers, marginally quicker than Fernando Alonso's Ferrari (1:22.772).

Mercedes is hoping to reap some reward from a difficult German GP weekend when it ran its revised floor in the race to collect data, despite finding handling difficulties. Nico Rosberg (1:22.777) and Michael Schumacher (1:22.792) both featured in a top 10 that was completed by another German, Nico Hulkenberg (1:22.966) with the second Williams.
