Practice 1 Report - Heikki to the fore

The first practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix resulted in the fastest time for McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen, hinting that the team may be strong this weekend after the success of a new aerodynamic package at the Nurburgring. However, it is too early to make an definitive judgements as the big players have obviously not been going for lap times. Nico Rosberg was second quickest for Williams, ahead of Lewis Hamilton's McLaren and Mark Webber's Red Bull-Renault. The second Williams driver Kazuki Nakajima was fifth, followed by Jarno Trulli's Toyota and the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. The top 10 was completed by Fernando Alonso's Renault and the Brawn of World Championship leader Jenson Button.

The two BMW Saubers were next with Robert Kubica outrunning Nick Heidfeld and then Rubens Barrichello's Brawm and Timo Glock's Toyota. Sebastian Vettel was a surprising 15th, ahead of veteran Giancarlo Fisichella, Nelson Piquet in the second Renault, Adrian Sutil in the second Force India and the Toro Rossos of Sebastien Buemi and new boy Jamie Alguersuari, who did a decent job to get within three-tenths of Buemi.
