Lewis Hamilton stayed ahead of the field in the third practice session for the Hungarian GP, beating rival Felipe Massa by three-tenths of a second. The worry for McLaren is that the race pace of the Ferraris is better, as has happened in various races this year. The session had little incident and the times prove little with Timo Glock third ahead of Heikki Kovalainen, Nelson Piquet and Nick Heidfeld.

The Toro Rosso team looked better with Sebastien Bourdais seventh and Sebastian Vettel eighth. Kimi Raikkonen was ninth fastest in his Ferrari with teh top 10 completed by Nico Rosberg.

Fernando Alonso was the best of the rest in his Renault ahead of Kzauki Nakajima in the second Williams and David Coulthard's Red Bull. Jarno Trulli was next in his Toyota ahead of Rubens Barrichello, Mark Webber, Jenson Button, a troubled Robert Kubica and the two Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil.
