Practice 1 Report - McLaren sets the pace in Hungary

There was no big surprise on Friday morning with McLaren test driver Alexander Wurz setting the fastest time of the first practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, setting a time which was 1.4secs faster than Rubens Barrichello's Ferrari and the rest of the pack. The size of the gap indicates that no-one was really going for times in the morning and that Ferrari's good performance should not be blown out of proportion. For the record, however, Jenson Button was third quickest in his BAR-Honda ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa, Nick Heidfeld, Juan Pablo Montoya and Takuma Sato. The two Toyotas of Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli completed the top 11 ahead of Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber and Giancarlo Fisichella.

The only other point of note was the appearance of Chanoch Nissany in a third Minardi. He was six seconds off the pace of the slowest car and ended up in a sand trap.

The two Red Bull Racing racers David Coulthard and Christian Klien did not bother to go for any times, leaving the work to third driver Tonio Liuzzi.
