Practice 2 Report - Webber stays on top in Germany

Mark Webber (1:31.711) looks like he could once again deny Sebastian Vettel the chance of winning his home Grand Prix at Nurburgring.

The Australian, always quick on the track that saw him claim his first GP win, was impressive both in terms of one-lap speed and long run pace and again set the quickest time in the second session of free practice.

Vettel (1:32.084) finished the session third and at one stage, near the end of the session, race engineer Guillaume 'Rocky' Roquelin came on the radio and informed the world champion that he needed to find a couple of tenths of a second in sector two.

Silverstone winner Fernando Alonso (1:31.879) split the Red Bulls with the first of the Ferraris but his long run pace was not as consistently quick as Webber's. Felipe Massa (1:32.354) was fourth fastest, ahead of Michael Schumacher's Mercedes (1:32.411) and Nico Rosberg (1:32.587) 0.17s down in the sister car.

Lewis Hamilton (1:32.724) was a second away from the ultimate pace in the first of the McLarens, with the Renaults of Nick Heidfeld (1:33.098) and Vitaly Petrov (1:33.138) and Adrian Sutil's Force India (1:33.211) completing the top 10.

Jenson Button's McLaren (1:33.225) was 11th quickest but missed the final part of the session due to the failure of a revised exhaust system which was being tried.
