Race Notes - Alonso wins European GP

Fernando Alonso in his Renault won the European Grand Prix, the the Nurburgring, taking the win on the last lap when leader Kimi Raikkonen's right front tyre caused a suspension failure on his McLaren-Mercedes.

Polesitter Nick Heidfeld, on a three-stop strategy in his Williams-BMW, finished in second position.

Rubens Barrichello finished on the podium third place for Ferrari.

David Coulthard was fourth in his Red Bull-Cosworth.

Michael Schumacher was fifth in his Ferrari, Giancarlo Fisichella was sixth in his Renault, Juan Pablo Montoya finished in seventh in his McLaren, while Jarno Trulli finished in the final points position in his Toyota.
