Practice 2 Report - A grey day in Shanghai

The McLaren team dominated an overcast day of action in Shanghai with test driver Pedro de la Rosa coming out at the top of the timesheets, just clear of Toyota test driver Ricardo Zonta. The two testers were a full second clear of the nearest challenger, Kimi Raikkonen. And with Juan Pablo Montoya fifth fastest the McLaren team was in a very strong position for the weekend. The major threat will come from Fernando Alonso, who was fourth fastest, just a tenth slower than Raikkonen.

Rubens Barrichello was sixth in his Ferrari ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella, Mark Webber, Jenson Button and Felipe Massa. The two fastest Red Bull cars were 11th and 12th with David Coulthard a tenth ahead of Tonio Liuzzi. The Scotsman had a spin while the team's other driver Christian Klien had a puncture. He ended up three-tenths off the pace of Coulthard and Liuzzi, which put him 15th, split from his team mates by Takuma Sato and Michael Schumacher.

It was not a good day for Antonio Pizzonia who ended up 16th having spun off and damaged his rear suspension. Next up was Jacques Villeneuve's Sauber ahead of the Toyotas of Ralf Schumacher and Jarno Trulli, both of which were involved in dramas, Ralf having a couple of offs and Trulli breaking down in the final minutes of the session. Others to go off the track were Sato and Alonso.
