Practice 2 Report - Kubica stays on top

BMW Sauber continued to set the fastest times on Friday as the Montreal track got faster as temperatures rose and rubber was put down. Fernando Alonso ended the session setting a time that was just a tenth slower, underlining that this is a race that he wants to win. It was worth noting that Williams's Alexander Wurz got to within three-tenths of a second of Kubica's best time in the afternoon session while Kimi Raikkonen showed that McLaren is competitive, beating Anthony Davidson's Honda, Giancarlo Fisichella's Renault and the Williams of Mark Webber. Tonio Liuzzi was eighth fastest ahead of the BMWs of Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve.

Robert Doornbos put his Red Bull-Ferrari 11th fastest ahead of the two Hondas of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button with Christijan Albers 14th, ahead of Michael Schumacher's Ferrari.

As usual the lap times are fairly unimportant as it is very hard to know who is doing what in terms of preparation although engineers will be closely studying the top speeds of the cars to see if there is any obvious effect from the rule change that stops the use of flexible wings.
