Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest time of the Saturday morning session in Spa with a time that was two-tenths ahead of his team-mate Felipe Massa. There was then a gap of a tenth of a second to Fernando Alonso with Lewis Hamilton just over two-tenths behind. There was then a gap of three-tenths to the best of the rest, on this occasion Heikki Kovalainen in the Renault, ahead of Jarno Trulli's Toyota, Nico Rosberg's Williams and Nick Heidfeld's BMW. The Munich cars were not as fast as expected and there were troubles for Robert Kubica, who suffered an engine problem and will thus have to take a drop of 10 places on the grid when the team change the engine.

Ralf Schumacher and Mark Webber completed the top 10 with Giancarlo Fisichella a rather disappointing 11th ahead of Jenson Button (still showing well in his Honda) and David Coulthard in the second Red Bull. Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel was next up ahead of the lacklustre Alex Wurz, Takuma Sato and the frustrated Tonio Liuzzi. Adrian Sutil was 18th for Spyker ahead of Rubens Barrichello, Anthony Davidson and Sakon Yamamoto, who had a spin. Kubica brought up the rear.
