Nico Rosberg set the fastest time of the Friday afternoon session in Bahrain, with a time that was a tenth faster than the Renault of Fernando Alonso. Jarno Trulli's Toyota was another tenth slower and there was then a gaggle of cars including Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, the Brawn of Jenson Button, Adrian Sutil's Force India, the Toyota of Timo Glock and Rubens Barrichello's Brawn. The top 10 was completed by Kazuki Nakajima's Williams.

Lewis Hamilton was 11th fastest in his McLaren ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella's Force India, Toro Rosso drivers Sebastiens Buemi and Bourdais ahead of Nelson Piquet's Renault, the Ferrari of Felipe Massa, the BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica, Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari and the McLaren of Heikki Kovalainen. The field was completed by Nick Heidfeld.

The odd thing in all this is that five of the top six cars of 2008 were at the back end of the timesheet.

It is unlikely that this will be the case on Saturday.
