A sudden flurry of activity in the final moments of the second practice session gave us a hint of what to expect in qualifying on Saturday and Sunday. The fastest time of the session went to McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, three-tenths of a second ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen. Nick Hiedfeld gave everyone a surprise by putting his Williams third while Mark Webber's chance for a moment of glory was frustrated as crossed the start-finish line a couple of seconds too late to record a fast lap. Michael Schumacher ended up fourth for Ferrari ahead of Juan Pablo Montoya, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella.

The session saw Vitantonio Liuzzi spin off into a sand trap while a similar fate befell Ralf Schumacher, although he managed to get going on again. Also spinning off was Jordan test driver Robert Doornbos.
