Track marshal killed after Canadian GP

A track marshal died today in an incident after the Canadian Grand Prix.

The marshal was helping to remove Esteban Gutierrez's Sauber, after the end of the race, as the Mexican had crashed in turn 1 seven laps from the end of the Grand Prix. While helping to keep the C32 stable on the crane, the marshal dropped his radio and stumbled as he tried to pick it up. Unfortunately, the recovery vehicle ran him over and he sustained life threatening injuries. He was airlifted to Sacre-Coeur Hospital where he died from his injuries at 6:02pm local time.

His name won't be released until his family is notified.

This is the first fatality of a track marshal since the 2001 Australian Grand Prix, when the marshal was hit by the wheel that had come off a crashing car.
