Verstappen arrested in Holland

Dutch former F1 driver Jos Verstappen, who drove his last grand prix in Brazil in 2003, has been arrested in Holland after an incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

According to the De Standaard newspaper, Michael Schumacher's former Benetton team mate, who is 40 this year, surrendered himself to police after an incident involving a car in which a 24-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance with heavy bruising.

The incident took place in the Dutch city of Roermond.

"It's definitely not the first time he does this," the woman told RTL television. "I think now I need to go and hide ” I don't know what to expect when he is released."

Verstappen, along with his father, was given a five-year suspended jail sentence in 2000 after a brawl at a Belgian kart circuit in 1998 in which a man suffered a fractured skull. And three years ago he was found not guilty of assault but fined 1650 Euros for breaching a restraining order involving his ex-wife.
