F1 name change go-ahead set to end Lotus confusion

The Formula 1 Commission is understood to have approved the F1 name-change applications that were part of the agenda at a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, today.

From 2012 therefore, Team Lotus will race under the Caterham name, Renault will become Lotus and Virgin Racing will be known as Marussia, in deference to the team's principal investor.

Brand values and their worth to F1 have been the subject of ongoing discussions within the paddock. Having cleared the F1 Commission, the name changes should be formally rubber-stamped by the FIA World Motor Sport Council on December 7.
