Bahrain GP2 Asia race cancelled

This weekend's GP2 Asia race has been cancelled by the organisers due to the civil unrest in Bahrain.

With at least three deaths reported after police and the military moved in and to break up the thousands of demonstrators at the Pearl Roundabout, firing rubber bullets and tear gas.

The GP2 Asia organisers issued the following statement: "Following the current events in Bahrain, at the request of the Bahrain Motorsport Federation, it has been decided that the remainder of the meeting which was supposed to take place this week at Bahrain International Circuit is cancelled due to force majeure."

These events cast further doubt that the Grand Prix will take place in the middle of March - F1 teams scheduled to begin a test at the circuit on March 3rd.
