On the same day that Nico Hulkenberg said that he could not reach an agreement to stay at Williams, the british team announced that Rubens Barrichello will stay on for the 2011 season.

Last year's runner-up finished 10th in the championship with 47 points, helping to secure sixth place for Williams in the constructors' championship.

Team Principal Frank Williams said, "We recruited Rubens to Williams knowing that he would bring technical expertise, experience and passion. He has delivered everything we could have hoped for this season and we are delighted to confirm that he will drive for us again in 2011."

The second driver is expected to be named before the end of the year. The large backing from Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA has made Pastor Maldonado the strong favourite for the drive, in a year that Williams has lost sponsorship contracts from RBS, Philips and Air Asia.
