Heidfeld to return with Sauber?

Nick Heidfeld could return to the Sauber team for the final five races of the season in place of Pedro de la Rosa.

Heidfeld was recently released from his Mercedes contract to do test work for new 2011 F1 tyre supplier Pirelli, but he was being linked to a Sauber seat in the Monza paddock. Peter Sauber refused to comment on his driver situation but the team recently confirmed Kamui Kobayashi for 2011 without mentioning De la Rosa. The team said at the time that its second driver would be confirmed at a later date.

Meanwhile, there was more speculation in Monza that Michael Schumacher might not continue with Mercedes in 2011, Schumacher continuing to suffer in comparison to Nico Rosberg, who again outqualified and outraced him at Monza.

The relatively weaker front tyres are said to have hampered the seven times champion more than many of his rivals, however, and it seems unlikely that Schumacher would make any final decision before the current grid has its first run on Pirellis in a post Abu Dhabi test.
