Lotus, Cosworth agree to end engine deal

Cosworth issued an announcement that they have reached an agreement to end their current engine supply deal with the Lotus team. The move clears the way for Lotus to sign a deal for a Renault engine deal, which the team has already negotiated an agreement in principal.

The move, which would see Lotus use Renault engines, gearboxes and transmissions, has been hotly rumored recently.

The Cosworth statement said, "Cosworth has reached an agreement in principle with Lotus Racing whereby the team's Cosworth engine supply agreement will come to a conclusion at the end of the current Formula One season. This agreement is subject to contract and until the agreement is signed, neither party will be making any further comment."

After Jarno Trulli retired from the Italian Grand Prix with a gearbox failure, Lotus team principal posted on his twitter account, "Jarno retired gearbox. oh well, making decsions easier."
