Massa gets away with 'jump' start

Felipe Massa started ahead of his grid position in last weekend's Belgium GP amateur video footage has shown, but it is too late for him to suffer any penalty.

The footage was uploaded to the internet and the FIA has launched an investigation into why race director Charlie Whiting did not receive any information about the transgression, either from grid marshals of the electronic grid sensor equipment which detects jump starts.

"The problem was not brought to the attention of the FIA race director by either the marshals nor the automatic jump start system in time to be able to apply the appropriate penalty," said the FIA, "and as no further information or complaints were received before the publication of the official result, the classification will remain unchanged."
