Alonso Needs New Monocoque

Fernando Alonso will miss Monaco qualifying as a result of his accident in free practice on Saturday morning.

Alonso's shunt, at Massenet, has caused damaged to the Ferrari monocoque where a wishbone was pushed into the chassis and the team has been left no option but to build up another car for Alonso to take part in Sunday's race.

Alonso won the opening race of the season in Bahrain, but then suffered incident-afflicted races in Melbourne, Malaysia and Shanghai before finishing second behind Mark Webber in Barcelona. Just three points behind championship leader Jenson Button as the teams headed for round 6 in Monaco, however, Alonso had high hopes of a strong result and topped both sessions of Thursday practice. Starting from the back of the grid at the track where overtaking is most difficult comes as a big blow to the 2005-6 champion.
