Small gestures

Silverstone Circuit has donated $6400 raised from parking fines at the British Grand Prix to four local organisations. Parking regulations were implemented at the event to ensure that visitors adhered to the parking rules which, in turn, enabled the circuit to manage traffic flow in the most efficient way possible. Whittlebury Primary School has been given $4200 to purchase laptop computers to help its pupils; Chackmore Junior School was giveen $1400 to fund the purchase of books and seating for a new library. Two other local charities have been given smaller sums.

In motor racing terms these sums are tiny but for the recipients it can make a big difference.

"The money means that the small village school can now have all the up-to-date IT equipment needed to keep abreast of our ever changing world," said Stuart Hall, the chairman of the Friends of Whittlebury School. "It means so much to the teachers and parents."
