Justin wins in Motown

Justin Wilson won his first Indycar victory on Sunday on the Belle Island track in Detroit. The former F1 driver, who races for the Newman Haas Lanigan team, beat Helio Castroneves (Penske Racing) and Tony Kanaan (Andretti Green). Wilson is the ninth different driver to win an IRL race this year.

Wilson won four victories in Champ Car, his last being a year ago in Assen, Holland. This year the merger of Champ Car and the Indy Racing League made it difficult for the Champ Car teams to be competitive, although Wilson's team-mate Graham Rahal won on the streets of St Petersburg in April.

"I was so desperate to get a victory this year, my first one in IndyCar (Series) and my first one with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing," Wilson said. "This means a lot. It’s the most important win of my career."
