Ryan gets a promotion

McLaren team manager Dave Ryan has been with the team since 1974 and has played a big role in turning McLaren into what it is today. He plays an important role in organising the race team and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

He has now been promoted to the role of sporting director, an expanded role.

"We all appreciate Davey’s contribution: he’s loyal, forthright and fearlessly hard working," says team manager Martin Whitmarsh. "In fact, he’s pivotal to the way we go racing each weekend and thoroughly deserves to take on this broader role."

One wonders whether Dave will not be calling the team's race strategy in the future, given the dodgy call that Lewis Hamilton had to overcome to win the German GP.
