US recognition for Mehl

The American habit of creating halls of fame has had little impact in Europe but it is interesting to note that Goodyear's longtime F1 boss Leo Mehl has recently been named as a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. Mehl joined Goodyear in 1959 and within a few years was a key player in the company's success at Indianapolis and in F1. He became head of the company's F1 activities in 1967 and remained in that role until 1996, although in the latter part of his career he took on additional responsibility and ended up running all of Goodyear's worldwide competition activities.

From 1996 to 1999 Mehl was executive director of the Indy Racing League and a vice president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
