Abu Dhabi confirms 2009

As we exclusively reported two weeks ago.Abu Dhabi will host a Grand Prix in 2009 on a new racing circuit on Yas Island which will combine a 1.8-mile permanent circuit with a special 1.5-mile section running through a built-up area and around a marina.

"We are delighted to bring Formula 1 to Abu Dhabi," said Bernie Ecclestone. "It was a mutual decision to have a second race in this economically fast-growing region and I have no doubts that Bahrain and Abu Dhabi can coexist perfectly. There are five countries waiting at the moment to have a race and we have decided to come here - this should speak for itself."

Ecclestone says that he would like a 25-race calendar but added that he was happy to settle for 20.
