Porsche to develop driving centre at Silverstone

The British Racing Drivers' Club has voted through plans for Porsche Cars GB to develop a Porsche Driver Training Facility at Silverstone. Porsche and Silverstone are now in the process of formalising the relationship and will then move ahead and apply for planning permission. The area to be developed is on the east side of the circuit, on the site of the old rallycross track, which is to be found on the outside of the track at the top end of Hangar Straight. The plan is to construct a purpose-built venue with a test track and driver training facilities. This may have independent access as there is a metalled road that arrives at the track close to the area, and cuts across country to the A413, a local road that links Whittlebury to Buckingham. It remains to be seen whether permission will be granted to use this road, although it is often used during the British GP weekend to help the flow of traffic into the circuit.

The move is another step in Silverstone's programme to maximise income.
