Why Real Madrid can afford an F1 sponsorship

Real Madrid is a Spanish sports club, best known for its soccer team. The team is one of the best in Europe. The organisation is still run by its membership and in addition to soccer fields a successful basketball team as well. The club has been headed for the last three months by president Ramon Calderon.

Real Madrid recently signed a $1.4bn deal for the TV rights to its games for seven years, beginning in 2007. This nearly triples the annual TV income for the club to $201m.

The organisation has big plans for the future, including spreading its brand around the world, increasing its merchandising, creating theme parks and so on and it seems that F1 is seen as the best way to do this.
