Nigel Mansell's plans to upgrade the Dunkeswell karting circuit in Devonshire have been turned down by the East Devon Council after nine months of negotiation. The plans, proposed by Mansell's Woodbury Park Ltd, were refused on the grounds that planned new building at the track would have an adverse effect on the Blackdown Hills area and the potential for light pollution would detract from the dark night time environment of an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Mansell may decide to appeal the decision and continue the fight but the locals opposed to the idea say that they will go on fighting.
