Wilson breaks his wrist
Justin Wilson is out of the Champ Car Series for the rest of the year, having broken a bone in his wrist in qualifying for the race in Surfers Paradise. Wilson suffered the injury when he spun into a tyre barrier and the impact went up through his steering. Wilson was third in the championship standings and had only a tiny chance of the title but he is now out of the running. All that Sebastian Bourdais has to do to win his third title is to finish ninth. The Frenchman qualified second on Friday behind local hero Will Power, who lapped the track three-tenths of a second faster. Bourdais's team mate Bruno Junqueira is third. Bourdais's championship rival AJ Allmendinger was fifth on the grid but crashed in the final minutes of qualifying.
