Antonucci is World Champion!

The karting clans gathered at the weekend at Angerville in France for the CIK-FIA Karting World Championship and victory in the Formula A category went to Vortex team's Francesco Antonucci in a Tony Kart ahead of a similar machine run by the Tony Kart team for veteran Davide Fore. Antonucci charged through from ninth on the grid to win in damp conditions after passing Fore with eight laps to go. In the lower ICA category France's Mike Courquin took the title driving a Sodikart ahead of Italian Giacomo Patrono and Belgium's Rick Dreezen.

The event was the last World Championship to be held for 100cc direct-drive karts which have dominated the sport for all but a short period in the 1980s when 135cc engines were adopted. in 2007 the CIK-FIA is running its championships for rev-limited 125cc 2-stroke engines.
